The founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah has made damning allegations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
Rev. Owusu Bempah is only the second figure to make these allegations against the Inspector General of Police after Paul Adom Otchere insinuated these claims weeks ago.
According to Rev. Owusu Bempah, there is a Parallel Unit In the police service directly reporting to the IGP responsible for various operations which he alleges include killing. The pastor did not provide any evidence to support his claims.
The pastor claims it is this unit that arrested him during his scuffle with priestess turned Evangelist Patricia Agradaa.
The top pastor was speaking during a sermon on Sunday 10th September 2023.
“I have heard that the IGP has a group in the police service and all they do is kill people. This group of policemen were the same people who came for me.
“These sorts of things are going on in the police but everybody is quiet. I am letting NPP members know that this IGP would take you into opposition. It looks as if the NPP did not suffer to win power,” he said in Twi.
Owusu Bempah Arrest and Kusi Boateng
Our readers will recall how in 2021, police officers acting on orders alleged to be directly from the IGP handcuffed Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah on his hospital bed Monday after the clergyman was admitted after his arrest.
The IGP was said to be at the birthday party of embattled Victor Kusi Boateng with Vice President Bawumia when he gave the orders.
Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah was admitted to the Police Hospital Outpatient Unit and was examined by a Medical Doctor without handcuff.
He was also brought to the hospital without a handcuff, but after minutes of being allocated a bed with an armed police officer stationed by his side, “an order from above” came to have him handcuffed to the bed, which news MyNewsGh.com was first to publish and went viral as a result of our publication.
After numerous calls were placed to higher-ups in the political space by Rev. Owusu Bempah’s camp, the handcuff was removed after a further reinforcement of 7 armed police commandos were deployed to the hospital by another order from above.
This created a scene at the police hospital as NPP political figures such as Hopeson Adorye and Ernest Owusu Bempah of Ghana Gas among others had stormed the police hospital to check on their pastor Owusu Bempah.
In the ensuing confrontation between the police and the visiting faction led by Hopeson Adorye, some of the armed police officers threatened to shoot off the head of Hopeson Adorye if he took one step.
This is after the police officers said they have an order to remove the drip on Rev. Owusu Bempah and take him back to his holding cells but which Hopeson Adorye and others resisted as they believe the man needed medical care.
The standoff which lasted for several minutes saw the handcuff placed back on Rev. Owusu Bempah as he was driven top
Earlier, MyNewsGh.com understood efforts by John Boadu, General Secretary of the NPP to get Rev. Owusu Bempah bailed out the Dansoman police station was refused by the police based on “orders from high above” in the police service.
Further intervention by Ama Busia, an elderly stalwart of the New Patriotic Party, to get Rev. Owusu Bempah out also proved futile.
In a last-ditch attempt, the NPP fell on lawyer Gary Nimako, an astute legal brain, to help save embattled Rev. Owusu Bempah.
‘Tell Dampare to forgive me’
In an emotional message, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah is quoted by a trusted source who was with him at the hospital as having told him ” to tell Dampare to forgive him if he has offended him”.
Rev. Owusu Bempah believes that the Acting IGP may have an axe to grind with him, hence his tightening of the noose around his neck.
Several police officers deployed to Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah confirmed that the Acting IGP is the one giving the orders on the Rev. Owusu Bempah case.
