Former presidents John Mahama, John Agyekum Kufuor, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu will join in this year’s Green Ghana Day project on Friday 10 June 2022.
The ministry of lands and natural resources is projecting to plant 20 million trees this year after a successful maiden edition saw the planting of seven million seedlings.
President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to kick off the day by planting a tree at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.
“John Mahama has been very gracious to agree to plant on the day on Friday. His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will be planting, the Okyenhene will be planting, the Yaa-Naa will be planting, the Wa-Naa will be planting, the clergy will be planting,” the sector minister Samuel Jinapor told Asaase News.
“Prominent church leaders of our country are going to plant. Indeed the Pentecost Church is committed to plant one million trees, the Presbyterian Church is going to plant one million trees, the chief imam even in his advance age is going to plant.
“And then I myself, I am going to join the British high commissioner and British citizens to plant in the Achimota Forest in commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen,” he said.
