The Deputy Communications Director of the governing NPP, Kamal-Deen Abdulla has advised the opposition party to base their criticisms on decisions of the Supreme Court on the face of the law.
Following the ruling by the Highest Court of the Land, the Supreme Court of Ghana, on Wednesday 10th March 2022, that the Deputy Speaker reserves the right to vote while presiding and to be part of the quorum for decision making, a series of vehement reactions have emanated from the opposition party (NDC).
Notably among these reactions from the NDC are the responses given by the Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and the MP for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George. They both share the view that the ruling by the Supreme Court was flawed.
In an interview on TV3’s Big Issue Morning Programme on Friday, 11th March 2022, the host, Johnny Huge, provided the platform for the Deputy Communications Director, Kamal-Deen Abdulla, and the MP for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, to share their views on the ruling. In responding to an earlier submission made by Sam George heading in the direction of an unfavorable ruling by the Supreme Court, Kamal-Deen Abdulla stated that the MP together with his political allies must make their submissions in line with the law and not emotions.
In the course of the interview, JoyNewsRoom observed that the MP for Ningo Prampram touted more on seeing parliament as a separate institution that needs to function independently and that its standing orders must be respected as such. This line of thought was described by Kamal-Deen Abdulla as a mere emotional talk arising from the NDC’s displeasure about the ruling by the Supreme Court.
The Deputy Communication Director of the NPP stated below;
“I would advise that my brother Sam George learn to come to terms with basing on the law to argue his points on the ruling by the Supreme Court. He should not resort to his emotions when speaking to matters of Supreme Court ruling.”
