Zosimli Naa Ife Bell Tipagya has indicated that the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, did nothing wrong with the medical equipment that has been auctioned.
A container containing medical equipment allocated for the Northern Region community has been auctioned by the Ghana Port Authorities.
There have been several misconceptions about the container.
But a statement issued by the Zosimli Naa with regards to the issue said that even though he was in the company of the Hon. Northern Regional Minister when he visited the Vice President, their visit was not because of the container.
“Our visit to the office of H.E. Vice President Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by the Hon. Regional Minister, was part of the customary process involving a courtesy call for a formal introduction. It’s important to note that the primary purpose of this visit was not centered around the container issue.”
He indicated that “Our office, in collaboration with the Regional Minister, had already initiated engagements with various stakeholders regarding the container matter prior to this visit”.
The statement further indicated that “any claims suggesting that Alhaji King Faisal Adam or any other individual or private entity diverted the container are not true”.
“Our primary objective was to ensure that the medical supplies reached multiple hospital facilities, as previously mentioned. During our consultation with our US partner and in compliance with the shipping company’s requirements, the consignee for the original bill of lading was designated as The Office of Zosimli Naa. Importantly, the bill of lading was never issued in the name of an individual or a private entity at any point in time. Given that this marked our team’s first experience in shipping a medical donation, our team’s initial
expertise led to an unintentional mistake in the consignee designation. However, upon our initial engagement with our key partner, Ghana Health Services, this error was promptly rectified. The Freight Corrector was issued, updating the consignee’s information to reflect Ghana Health Services (please find attached documentation). Crucially, this procedural detail establishes that the container could not have been diverted without the issuance of a proper freight correction order from the United States. Therefore, any claims suggesting that Alhaji King Faisal Adam or any other individual or private entity diverted the container are not true.”
