President Nana Akufo-Addo has welcomed attempts to rewrite Ghana’s 1992 constitution, which is 30 years old.
Despite democratic wins and decades of stability, he believes that the country’s norms must be followed and any loopholes must be closed.
Despite democratic victories and decades of stability, he believes that the country’s laws must be followed and loopholes closed.
Ghanaians, according to President Akufo-Addo, should be open to constitutional reforms.
“Ghana is commemorating the Referendum and its democratic legacy this year. I really urge all Ghanaians to concur. Keep in mind that the Constitution is a living document that can be modified to meet current and future requirements.”
The 1992 constitution of Ghana has stood the test of time.
In January 2010, the Constitution Review Commission was established to consult Ghanaians on the 1992 Constitution and possible amendments.
The Commission was also required to draft a bill to change the Constitution. Some experts claim that the study still has flaws that need to be addressed years later.
Despite the Commission’s efforts, many believe Ghana squandered an opportunity to investigate it.
Ghana, according to President Nana Akufo-Addo, chose the finest option in accepting democracy 30 years ago.
