A former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah, has advised Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, to desist from contesting the General Secretary position at the upcoming elections of the party.
The General Secretary position is currently being held by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito and Mr Dzirasah believes Mr Nketia should head into the elections unopposed.
According to him, Mr Nketia has performed his duties creditably and should be retained to continue with the job, heading into the 2020 general elections.
For him “the defeat of the NDC [at the 2016 elections] cannot be ascribable to the poor performance of General Mosquito because, I followed up on his performance and how he managed the Secretariat”.
Mr Dzirasah speaking on Joy FM said his plea is to “my young good friend [Koku Anyidoho] that he still has a long period to grow, and that, I’m confident that after this four year of an additional tenure for General Mosquito, he would have been more than ripe to assume the position that he’s aspiring for now, so, he should allow General Mosquito to go probably uncontested”.
Meanwhile, the Council of Elders of the party has advised that the delegates’ conference be held on 3 November 2018 at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
The conference had been slated for 28 October 2018.
So far, about 100 aspirants have picked forms to contest for the various executive positions in the party.
