The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to lose one seat in Parliament as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured an injunction against the Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson.
Making this revelation in a Facebook post, the MP for Tamale North, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini wondered why a government that publicly says it is seeking to build cooperation and consensus in parliament has since the disagreement over the E-levy started prosecution against the minority’s ranking member of the Finance Committee, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, on trump up charges, 5yrs after he was handed over as Deputy Minister for Finance.
According to the Tamale North lawmaker, this morning at the Supreme Court, Frank Davies brought an injunction application against minority MP for Assin North.
The Supreme Court panel made up of;
- Justice Yonny Kulendi
- Justice Jones Dotse
- Justice Gertrude Torkonoo
- Justice Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu
- Justice Nene Amegatcher
- Justice Agnes Dordzie
- Justice Avril Lovelace Johnson
have directed Frank Davies to do personal service on the MP, since he couldn’t find the speaker to serve.
This implies that, when the injunction is served on the Assin North MP [Hon James Gyakye Quayson] as directed by the court, he will have to stop holding himself as the MP for Assin North.
Should this happen, the number of the NDC MPs in Parliament will reduce by one ahead of the re-laying of the controversial Electronic Transactions Levy (E-levy).
