Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Collins Adomako-Mensah has praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for meeting with New Patriotic Party (NPP), duly informing them of his intentions to formally announce his candidature for the NPP presidential primaries before making a public announcement.
Hon. Adomako-Mensah described his meeting with them prior to the announcement as a show of respect.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia today, May 3, 2023, formally announced his decision to be part of the flagbearership race of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) after having in the recent past received massive endorsement from the rank and file of the party.
After the announcement, Mr Adomako-Mensah revealed that Dr Bawumia had sought the audience of NPP MPs before making public his intention to run .
“He met us. Informed us of His intentions before going public. That is respect,” he wrote on social media.
Earlier dozens of NPP MPs had declared their support for Dr Bawumia’s candidature when it was unclear whether or not he was going to run.
Dr Bawumia joins former Trade Minister John Alan Kyeremanten, MP of Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Former Minister of Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko who have declared their intentions to run.
He is seen as one of the frontrunners in the contest.
