The proposition made in the 2022 budget to the effect of initiating Electronic Levy tax measure as a means of generating funds internally to finance developmental projects, attracted a lot of mixed reactions from the general public.
Panel discussions and interviews held on Radio and Television platforms amongst other media portals revealed that the actual cause of the confusion centered on a misunderstanding of the computation of the E-Levy and the justification it holds to be passed.
Being a listening government as the quality is evidenced by all, the Akuffo Addo-led government charged the Information Ministry to hold a town hall meeting, where the finance minister and other substantive ministers will explain the composition and the objective of the E-Levy to the general public.
The town hall meeting was held on Thursday, 22nd January 2022, in the Eastern Region. The Minister for Information, Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah; Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Attah; Communication Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, and Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, addressed the audience.
The submissions made by the speakers went a long way in helping mitigate the E-Levy controversies.
