The University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) has announced it will resume lectures on Monday, 21 February 2022.
“Following the ruling by the High Court that lecturers should return to the lecture halls, the University Community is hereby informed that lectures will begin on Monday, 21 February 2022,” a notice signed by the registrar of the UPSA Dr Koryoe Anim-Wright on Wednesday, 16 February 2022 stated.
The announcement comes on the back of an injunction that was secured by the National Labour Commission (NLC)on the ongoing strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
Meanwhile, the Education Committee of Parliament will today, Thursday, 17 February 2022, meet the NLC and the UTAG over the ongoing strike by the latter.
The meeting will be geared towards convincing the university teachers to resume lectures following weeks of absence from the classroom.
The university teachers are yet to return to the classroom despite the NLC’s injunction that was secured on their ongoing strike.
The injunction application was granted by the Labour Division of the Accra High Court today, Tuesday, 15 February 2022.
The court, presided over by Justice Frank Aboadwe Rockson, halted the strike which is currently in its fifth week.
This means the lecturers must return to the lecture halls to teach.
UTAG has been on strike demanding better conditions of service.
The University lecturers have accused the government and the NLC of not having the interest of the university teachers at heart.
