The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has launched an e-Travel Card to be used by public officials for receiving traveling allowances, which will replace the issuance of physical cash.

In line with the digitization agenda, to allow technology take center stage in the administration of the country, the e-Travel Card is set to replace the disbursement of physical cash for traveling allowances of public officials.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Dr. Bawumia touted that the e-Travel Card will help boost transparency and accountability. Again, he said that the card will help to better monitor monetary allocations made for traveling allowances.

Highlighting the several benefits the e-Travel Card holds for Ghana, he noted below;
“The e-Travel Card is expected to deliver several benefits, including the elimination of the risk of carrying cash; transparency and ease of accountability; timely retirement of accountable Imprest; and improved monitoring and controls of budgetary allocations for official travels to avoid overspending.“The era of cash for travel in the public sector will soon be over, bringing further transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.”

The cashless card will be given to government and other public officials for their local and foreign travels.
