backtofrontshow.com Review: Pricing, Features and Facts

Anne Bruce6 min read
backtofrontshow.com

The domain backtofrontshow.com is owned by BacktoFrontShow (BTFS), which presents itself as a podcast analytics platform with plans beginning at $1,200/month. Features and pricing are clearly laid out on the site, but a few company details are kept undisclosed.

Here is where to draw the line between what the site says, and what can be checked, and also clears up some common confusions.

Key Takeaways

  • The site markets a podcast analytics tool for professional creators and media teams, not a podcast or a hosting service.
  • Listed prices are $1,200 a month (Basic), $3,600 a month (Pro), and custom pricing (Enterprise).
  • The About page makes big performance claims, but none come with named sources or proof.
  • The About page does not name founders, a team, or a registered company in the version we reviewed.
  • The domain also hosts old episode pages from an unrelated web industry podcast called The Back to Front Show.
  • The site is not the same as Backtracks, a different podcast analytics company.
  • Ask for written terms and references before paying anything.

What Is backtofrontshow.com?

The homepage title is “BacktoFrontShow | Podcast Analytics Platform.” The tool helps podcasters and media teams to know who listens, how they listen, and how they interact, not just how many times they download.

The main menu has About Us, Features, Pricing, Blogs, Contact Us. There are also buttons for “Request Access,” “Book a Demo,” “Start free Trial.” We did not find the terms of the trial explained on the pages we reviewed.

Features the Site Advertises

The homepage highlights six key features:

  • Audience demographics, such as age, location, and interests
  • Listening behavior
  • User engagement, such as likes, shares, and comments on episodes
  • Device analytics, showing which devices people use to listen
  • Custom reports
  • Geographical analytics, shown on a map

The site touts a four-step process: connect your podcast, allow the tool to gather data, utilize the analytics dashboard, and create tailored reports.

More are added to higher plans. The Pro plan includes audience growth and churn rates as well as segmentation and targeting. The Enterprise plan includes predictive analytics, marketing and CRM tool integration, and user behavior tracking.

One tiny weird thing: the “Listening Behavior” feature box just recycles the exact verbiage from “Audience Demographics.” It feels like a mistake, maybe copy and paste, rather than a different feature.

backtofrontshow.com Pricing

Here is what the homepage looked like when we last checked:

  • Basic: $1,200 per month
  • Pro: $3,600 per month
  • Enterprise: contact the company for a quote

Over the course of a full year, that’s up to $14,400 for Basic, and $43,200 for Pro, before any extras or discounts. Prices are subject to change, so you’d want to double check them on the official Pricing page.

These figures make the tool out to be way beyond hobby budgets. It’s clearly targeted at businesses, networks and shows that already have revenue.

Claims on the About Page

The About page contains brag-worthy facts. For instance, more than 1 million minutes of podcasts covered, in more than 15 countries, with a 95% user satisfaction rate, 300+ partnerships, and integration with more than 30 marketing tools.

They are self-reported. We saw no named study, audit or customer list behind them. Take them as marketing assertions rather than facts.

There is also a disconnect. One stats block says”2.5Million +“ listener data points analyzed and the next section reads“2.5B+” data points. Million and billion are very different numbers, and the page doesn’t explain the leap.

What the Site Does Not Say

Based on the pages we checked, a few basics are absent or not fully addressed:

  • Who runs it. The About page describes “seasoned technologists, data scientists, and experts,” but names no one.
  • A legal company name. The footer shows a copyright line for “BackToFrontShow,” not a registered business entity.
  • Consistent contact details. The Contact page lists an address in Rockville, Maryland, and hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm EST. The footer shows 9AM to 5PM and a Gmail address. We did not verify the address.
  • A working privacy policy link. On the Contact page, the privacy policy link pointed to a placeholder (#) when we checked.
  • Independent customer proof. The homepage shows three testimonials with names and cities. We could not independently confirm these customers, and we found no listing for the platform on major software review sites.

None of this indicates that anything is amiss, but rather that a would-be purchaser ought to have a few questions in hand to ask before.

Do Not Confuse It With These

Searching this name pulls up a variety of unrelated things.

The Back to Front Show (podcast). It was a web industry podcast, hosted by Keir Whitaker and Kieran Masterton, which started in 2013. Old episode pages like Episode 1 and Episode 40 still exist on this very domain. If those hosts have anything to do with the current analytics company, well, that’s not publicly confirmed.

Avent and Monie: Back to Front. This is a sketch comedy show that was done at the Edinburgh festival. It has no relation to the website.

Backtracks. This is an independent podcast analytics company that has its own reviews on G2 and other sites. This is not the BacktoFrontShow.

The Site’s Blog

The blog currently displays a variety of general articles, including a marketing degree guide and statistics roundups for Spotify and YouTube. These articles are categorized under “General” and do not directly relate to the analytics product. Consider them as independent of the product’s own documentation.

What to Check Before Paying

If you are considering a paid plan, take these steps first:

  1. Request the full terms in writing, including the free trial, billing, and cancellation.
  2. Look up the business in the Maryland business entity search to see whether a company is registered at the listed address.
  3. Ask for customer references you can contact directly.
  4. Ask how the tool connects to your podcast feed and what data it stores.
  5. Book the demo and test it with a small scope before committing.
  6. Pay with a method that offers buyer protection.
